History of QOR

Quilts on the Rocks is a “quilt and stitchery show’
hosted by our Sudbury and District Quilting and Stitchery Guild.  The first Quilts on the Rocks Show was presented in 1985 to celebrate the tenth
anniversary of the Sudbury and District Quilting and Stitchery Guild.  The show has been held every three years since its inception.   Our quilt show draws
quilters and stitchers from across Northern Ontario.  It is the largest show of its kind in the North, with over 150 SDQS Guild Members volunteering to make the show a success.  We have had attendance running from 900 to 1,500 at previous shows.  Quilting Guilds from Sault Ste Marie, Elliot Lake, Manitoulin Island, North Bay and Timmins are regular attendees, often running bus trips for the occasion.

The Quilts on the Rocks Show features a wide variety of techniques with newly quilted and stitched items created in the three year period since the last show.  The show will display approximately 90 quilted items and over 40 stitched items.  It will include both quilted and stitched items from the many evening workshops, weekend classes/workshops, as well as the year end workshops.  These items will be tastefully displayed throughout the Parkside Centre.  At the show we
display our Guild’s Sudbury Heritage Quilt.  Also
displayed will be our Stitchery Quilt and our 35th
Anniversary Quilt.
